Benefits of Working out with a friend

According to New research, the UK’s leading health club has revealed that exercising with friends is considered better than exercising alone. The findings emerged in a study of 1,000 women, comparing the habits of those who like to exercise alone compared to those who prefer company when working out. Friends who exercise together were shown to train for longer, burn more calories, and visit their health club more regularly. Following are the benefits of working out with a companion in a gym:-

1.More motivation

We’re all familiar with the expression that there’s strength in numbers, and this couldn’t be truer when it comes to exercising. There are times when you just can’t face your workout, but when you’re visiting the gym with friends you’ll have to bear the brunt of not turning up.

2.More fun

When you exercise socially, for example in a class full of people, you eliminate the “Have I finished yet?” thoughts because you are focused on the fun sociable side of working out. While exercising alone with nothing but your friends is a good way to relieve stress, it can also become repetitive and boring for some people.

3.More competitive

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition. Teaming up with somebody who is moderately fitter than you can do wonders for your motivation. You’ll naturally want to keep up with your competitor which will encourage you to work harder during your sessions together.

4.Learn more

Hitting the gym with a friend is the perfect time to try a new exercise such as strength training or lifting heavier weights. When trying something new, your friend will provide a confidence boost and can also serve as a spotter if you need one.

5.Spotting each other

Never again will you have to approach a random meathead and ask him to spot you. Never again will you have to count your own reps. if you have a spotter, you don't have to worry as much. Use your spotter to keep an eye on your form as you work, too.

6.Save money

Sharing a cheeseburger is cheaper than buying one yourself (and fewer calories). The same math applies when it comes to a personal trainer. At Crunch, for example, a one-on-one session costs about $85, but a partner training session runs around $50 per person.

7.Fewer skipped workouts

Scheduling a gym session with a friend helps hold you accountable for getting your workout in. Meeting someone at the gym not only motivates you to show up but to work hard as well.

8.Work out for longer

Time flies when you’re having fun… or at least when you are distracted. Having someone to chat with between sets lets you focus on something other than just your workout making the time go by faster.

9.Recover together

There’s nothing worse than undoing all your hard work at the gym with unhealthy foods. A friend who’s worked up a sweat with you is likely to want to join you for a healthy post-exercise meal or snack.
